About GleenGlassGleenGlass Principal and Founder John Sauer strives to live and create in the style of wabi, sabi and shibui; ideals increasingly germane to the challenges we face in the pursuit of life and harmony. The forms he creates are honed to the essence of natural simplicity, and are round as life. His designs are evoked by the movement of water; his choice of media by the need to reclaim and bring back into life in a higher calling. John has been involved in art, marketing and building products for most of his life. His father, David Sauer, was one of the founders of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry and the Publisher of Qualified Remodeler and Kitchen and Bath Concepts magazines. His mother was a former curator for the Minnesota Museum of Modern Art and an accomplished designer, sculptor and painter. Encouraged at an early age to explore all things artistic, Sauer launched a career as a professional writer, evolving into sales and marketing management for a wide array of products. He stayed active in art throughout his career and discovered glass art as an offshoot of life cast sculpture. In glass art he found his calling. It is an art form that is figurative in design, literal in technical skill, and spiritual in the act of re-use as a way of giving back to the world. The most basic form of the vessel, the round, echoes his belief and serves as the perfect canvas. John is a member of the Oregon Glass
Guild, the Pacific Northwest Sculptor's Guild, and the Association
of Life Casters International. He has also served on the board of
the American Marketing Association in Oregon, and supports various
non-profits in the Pacific Northwest with his art. |
